Statement from the Iranian Liberal Students and Graduates

In support of “European Students Union” for Europe-wide protests

22nd Bahman (11th February) is a reminder for the Iranian people of the lost glory of a revolution that has been kidnapped; a political revolution against dictatorship that for years had contributed to the degradation of an ancient nation; a revolution which sought political freedom, but ended by taking away a nation’s freedom.

Now, thirty-one years after February 1979, a pleasant “Nasim” promises the arrival of new freedom. The Green Movement of the Iranian people in the heart of the Islamic Middle-East delivers this message that the Middle-East is not just a place where Ahmadi Nejads, Bin Ladans and Mullah Omars arise, but is also the land of “Neda”s and “Sohrab”s. It is a land of old and young people who seek peace and freedom despite thousands of unfulfilled desires and the fear of getting shot every single moment that they step into the streets. These people, our people, still seek democracy and freedom.

Not long ago, when Europe was a prisoner of autarchy ideologies, there were some who in support of communist autarchy claimed that the people of Eastern Europe do not want freedom and democracy, nevertheless, history has proven them wrong. Freedom and democracy is wanted at all times and by all generations.

We, the students and graduates of the Liberal Union of Universities of Iran, express our gratitude towards the initiative of the “European Students Union” regarding their protest on the 22 Bahman and their solidarity with Iranian Students.

Students have always been at the forefront of fighting tyranny, oppression and discrimination. In this global village our interests are intertwined more than before. The struggle against dictatorship is not limited to the borders of any nation any more. The dictators of the world support each other, as a result, we are also united in support of the struggle against dictatorship in Tehran, Beijing, Moscow, Minsk, Caracas, Khartoum, and Pyongyang…

We all are united. Iranian students have cried “Down with the Taliban, be it in Kabul, or be it in Tehran”, as Chinese students cried “Today Voice of Tehran, Tomorrow Voice of Beijing”, as students from Caracas have defended and supported the struggle of Iranian students….

We have heard your voices in support of the green movement of the Iranian people; we have felt your hands and we shake them. Our struggle is not confined to Tehran or Today. We consider ourselves as part of the fight against dictatorship all over the world that will not end until we bring down the last dictator. We believe with certainty that a world without communist dictatorships, or fascist Islam is a better world. Without them, we believe that the world would be a better place. We are Countless.
